LIDO Relaxation Centre in Riga
This leisure complex was designed with families very much in mind. It is based around a huge country style self-service restaurant topped by a windmill. Outside are plenty of attractions for kids like a children’s driving school, adventure playground and rink for roller-skating in summer and ice-skating in winter.

Riga Motor Museum
A paradise for anyone enthusiastic about cars and motorcycles, this is undoubtedly one of Europe’s best museums of its kind. The collection includes the cars of Soviet leaders Brezhnev and Stalin as well as some rare sports cars. Unusually, every exhibit is maintained in full working order.

Riga National Zoo
Located in the leafy Riga suburb of Mezaparks, near Lake Kisezers, Riga’s Zoo is among Europe’s oldest. There more than 475 animal species including brown bears and rare Siberian tigers, a tropical house and a large collection of birds.

Livu Aquapark in Jurmala
The largest aquapark in Northern Europe has an extensive special area for children – Captain Kid Land, where you’ll find a pirate ship with bridges, water guns and other amusements. Waterslides allow you to splashdown, or climb aboard a rubber ring to float along the river Orinoco into the waves of the Caribbean.

Ramkalni Recreation Centre (in Riga region)
A well-organised leisure facility easily accessible from Riga with a wide range of activities for kids of all ages plus adults. Summer and winter tobogganing, a ‘flying chair’, crazy ball, junior driving school and more. During winter there is a large downhill ski slope.

Vika Fairy Tale Park
The park offers walking trails, the author Vika's fairy tale hero wooden figures and picnic areas. Tours are possible led by the author himself.

Rundale Palace
(1736-1740) – the grandest and most elegant palace in the Baltics designed by Italian Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli, court architect to the Russian Empire. The palace was the summer residence of Ernest Johan Biron, reputedly a particular favourite of the Empress. The exterior is in the baroque style but interior is mainly rococo. 48 rooms of 138 have been carefully restored and are open to visitors. Art and furnishings characteristic of the period are on display. The palace has a French-style garden and park.

Tervete Nature Park
Several walking trails with heroes and villains from familiar fairy tails along the way. Visit a goblins’ forest and village, ride in a horse carriage and see some rare birds.

Ventspils Livonian Order Castle
(1290) – the oldest medieval fortified castle in Latvia, sympathetically restored to retaining its original exterior. Inside there is a well equipped museum of the town, which tells the fascinating story of Duke Jacob of Courland, whose rule transformed the region into a significant maritime power.

Irbene Radio Astronomy Centre (in Ventspils region)
A former maximum-security listening post for the Soviet Union to listen in on the West, today the two giant parabolic radio telescopes have a more benign role to play in scientific research. Nevertheless they remain very evocative and tourists have the opportunity to tour some of the original installations as well as finding out about the current work carried out at the centre.

Karaosta Prison Show in Liepaja
Karaosta is the former military sector of the city of Liepaja, for a long time operating as a high security town within a town. It has impressive naval forts erected by Tsar Aleksander as well as an imposing military prison. The interactive theatrical performance leads through the labyrinth of forts, giving insights into the troublesome history of the place along the way. ‘Prison officers’ control each group - with tourists placed in the roles of prisoners.
