If you wish to listen to the rustle of pine trees while sipping your coffee on the balcony or to wake up with the sound of birds outside our window, then this log house right on the edge of a forest is just what you are looking for. Even though the house lays only 1.5 km away from a village (Mersrags) centre, it is surrounded mostly by meadows and forests and it may seem that any moment Hansel and Grettel from the fairytale of brothers Grimm will run out of the trees.
The ground floor of the house has a cosy living room that is adjacent to a comfortable kitchen. There is also a sauna on the ground floor, which is certain to lure you with its unique sauna aroma. The first floor of the house has two bedrooms; each of them has 2 double beds. At the both ends of the house there are balconies.
Right next to the house there is a wooden water tub meant for those who wish to calm down in cold water after the sauna. In addition, there is comfortable wooden garden furniture: a table with wooden benches where you will love to have your meals while enjoying the beauty of the surrounding countryside. Next to the house there is also a badminton field with a net. It is also possible to rent out bicycles from the owners of the house.
A few kilometres away lay Mersrags – an ancient fishing and shipbuilders’ village. Even nowadays it is still possible to buy locally caught and smoked fish, which most certainly will taste far better that any that you can buy in a supermarket. The village has a few shops and cafes also.
Within 10 minutes walk from the house there is the Lake Engure and a bird lookout is nearby. Fishing in the lake is permitted starting from the third Sunday of June. You can fish only from a boat but the nearest boat base where you can rent a boat is a few kilometres away.
The Lake Engure is the richest lake in Latvia with regard to the bird population. Next to the lake there are bird lookouts, an orchid path and wild horses’ and cows’ pastures. On and around the lake live 169 species of birds, some of those are included on the IUCN Red List. In the vicinity of the lake you can see lots and lots of different plants, including some listed on the IUCN Red List.
