A spacious holiday house, formerly an ex-USSR hunting house (designed by then the main architect of Riga city), in the fishing village Upesgriva about 120 km from Riga and only 250 m from a wonderful sand beach. The sizable living room is reminiscent of a hunting trophy museum, featuring a large collection of wild animals’ horns on the walls.
There are 4 bedrooms (NB! Please note that due to technical reasons there are only three bedrooms mentioned on our website.), a spacious guest room, 3 WCs and a bathroom in the house. The house has three separate parts and each of them has its own separate entrance: the first part of the house has a bathroom, a WC and two bedrooms, one of those with 3 single beds and the other one with 2 single beds. The other side (part) of the house has a kitchen, a WC and a bedroom with 2 single beds. The kitchen is simple but it has the basic amenities necessary for cooking – an oven with a gas top, a microwave, a fridge and a coffee machine. The third part of the house (the middle) has a bedroom with a single bed, a WC and the pride of he house – 55 m2 large guest room with a fireplace and a fairly large collection of wild animals’ horns. Besides, the guest room has a fridge and 2 double settees, each being big enough for two people to sleep in.
There are only a few houses nearby the holiday house, the closest one being within 50 metres but the other houses are much further. You can buy the local delicacy in the village, the locally caught and smoked sea fish.
In 10 – 15 km distance minutes is the Lake Engure. Fishing in the lake is permitted starting from the third Sunday of June. You can fish only from a boat but there are several boat bases where you can rent a boat. The Lake Engure is the richest lake in Latvia with regard to the bird population. Next to the lake there are bird lookouts, an orchid path and wild horses’ and cows’ pastures. On and around the lake live 169 species of birds, some of those are included on the IUCN Red List. In the vicinity of the lake you can see lots and lots of different plants, including some listed on the IUCN Red List.
