This new cottage in Southern Estonia is situated on a hillside in the beautiful sloped agricultural landscape. In the summer you enjoy country life and in the winter there are good opportunities for skiing. In the autumn, there is plenty of mushroom and berries in the woods.
On the first floor is one room (approx. 20 m2) with a little pentry and a couch. Also on the first floor you find the sauna with shower and WC. Upstairs is one large bedroom with three beds and a child bed and a small bedroom with a double bed (wide enough for two slim people).
Behind the house is a pond where you may swim. One end of the pond has a sand beach for the kids. The cottage owner runs a farm on the large property and keeps cattle in an enclosed pasture next to the cottage. You are most welcome to buy fresh milk for a reasonable price. Your pets are welcome and you may even bring your horse if you want to. You are welcome to taste the strawberries from the end of June. Please observe that the sauna is heated with firewood and that in the wintertime you may need to light a fire in the stove to keep the house warm, the electric heating may not suffice.
If you give notice well in advance you can rent bicycles, the roads in the area are very well suited for cycling as there is very little traffic. For cross-country skiing there is a nice resort with electric lights in Haanja some 40 km from the cottage. The owner also often prepares skiing tracks on the property and there’s a toboggan-run right outside the door.
There are may sights and activities near this cottage:
- a little river for canoing (although at some streches the canoe must be lifted out of the water), 1.5 km
- gravel roads with very little traffic, suitable for cycling
- castle ruins in Vana-Vastseliina, 12 km
- sand caves in Piusa, 3 km
- pottery, 3 km
- hiking in marshlands (with trails and watch-tower) at Meenikunno
- barbed wire at the Russian border and Soviet rocket silos in the woods (hard to find)
- meteorite crater at Ilumetsa (with hiking trail)
- in the woods 50 meters from the house are burial-mounds some 1500 years old.
